OUR STORY

SECANACo comes from the Spanish word secano — meaning dry, unirrigated land. In the San Luis Valley, this land is cloaked in chico brush and grasses thriving in the face of massive winds, cold winters, long sun, and scarce water. To the untrained eye, the land is barren. Up close, this landscape is carefully evolved and downright stubborn.

As Southern Colorado struggles with prolonged drought and dwindling groundwater resourcs, SECANACo is inspired by the resilience of our drylands. We support people and landscapes who are adapting to a drier future by lending capacity.

In short, we are problem solvers, pollinators, and providers.

SECANACo was formed in 2024 as a Public Benefit Company with the intention to provide business consulting and project management services to land-based businesses. We believe in dual environmental and economic solutions.

What is a land based business?
A land-based business is inseparable from place. Their products and services are derived from natural resources, and they are capable of great environmental impacts. Farmers, chefs, anglers, ranchers, guides, and folks who depend on the integrity of natural resources to sustain a livelihood.
